1924 20c yellow, without watermark, used with additional franking on registered cover from Raseiniai to Germany

1924 20c yellow, without watermark, used with additional franking on registered cover from Raseiniai (23.5.25) to Germany, with Leipzig arrival pmk on back. The stamp has been lifted for inspection (signed Herbert Bloch) and re-hinged in place, v.f. As such, this is believed to be one of only two (!) known covers bearing this rare stamp (of which only 200 were issued). The unwatermarked varieties of 20c (also of 60c) occurred because of a defective process in the manufacture of the watermarked paper. Only a small section of some of the sheets had the watermark fading out. It has been established that there is always a trace of the watermarks, although they may be impossible to detect (Mi.220Y) -

Cherrystone – $ 2,300.00
